I have an exposed steam pipe in my bathroom. The bathroom was just remodeled but the steam pipe remains a sore thumb. Besides boxing it in, does anyone have any ideas on how to cover it so that is not unsightly and does not pose a burn problem for people who walk near it?

A good alternative is Fiberglass pipe insulation. It is white and they have special tape to cover the joints. there are also special plastic fitting if there are fittings on the pipe to be covered. If I am correct the big box stores did carry the insulation and the tape, but not the fittings.
Steam pipes should be insulated unless they are return pipes.
