Bathroom Sink Replacement

I replaced my sink in the bathroom and needless to say the old plumbing pipe pieces aren’t correct. I have about a 1.5″ gap when I try to connect the sink tailpiece to bathroom drain. I was told to cut the tailpiece and that should solve the problem. It did not, so I’m wondering what I should do as there do not seem to be connector pieces I can add to plastic PVC pipes. Although that could just be becuase the so-called plumbing experts at Home Depot are not aware of how to fix it.

Let me ask you something,

If a person knows anything at all about plumbing doesn’t it stand to reason they would be working for a plumbing contractor either as helper or journeyman making $15- $45 per hr rather then working in a big box store stocking shelfs?

There are 11/4 double CP Brass offsets or possibly swivel trap or extension tail pieces with slip nuts or 11/4 CP brass waste bend.

I am assuming the waste of the basin is 11/4 not 11/2″

Try going to a plumbing supply not a stock clerks hang out

Pool Equipment Rooms

I need to know if emergency showers and/or eyewash stations are required in hotel pool equipment rooms. I know this is the wrong forum to post in but it seems to be the most popular.

Yes, they are required, everyone I have worked in has an eye wash, you can contact your local OSHA office and confirm what you need.

Leaking Washing Machine

Washing Machine leaks when used from underneath. water comes from front right corner if you are facing it, can anyone tell me what is happening and what to do about it

Pull the front panel off of the washing machine to determine exactly where water is emitting from.

If it is an older model washing machine…….you might have an issue with rust through.

How to fix screw hole in copper pipe?

What is the best way to fix a screw hole in a copper pipe?

There are two simple ways, one is to cut it a apart and put in a repair coupling and the other is, if the hole is small, clean it so the copper is bright and just solder it shut.

Both ways you will need all the water out of the pipe, clean it bright, flux and approved solder with a hot torch and you will be done.

new valve on tub/shower no hot water

I have a basement tub/shower that was installed 3 years ago but never used. I have run the cold water from the faucet a couple times but never tried the hot. I just assumed it worked since it is brand new. Now I have gotten around to finishing the bathroom and realized I have no hot water coming from the faucet. I am not sure what kind of valve it is but its the kind that when the handle is pointed down it is off, when you turn it counterclockwise the cold water comes on and when you keep turning counterclockwise it should start mixing cold with the hot. Instead ,the farther you go, the water will stay cold and when you keep turning to where the hot should come through, the water stops. It must be the valve because I have hot water at the sink. Do these valves come apart? I can feel hot water in the pipe all the way to this valve, so I know it is getting there, just not coming out. Any suggestions? Thanks.

First thing I would do is remove the handle an trim plate….look to see if there are screwdriver shut off valves on the inlet piping and if so make sure that they are both open……..depending on your model the valve may be a 1/4 turn, the screwdriver slot will be horizontal when on,or the type where you have to turn it fully counter clockwise to open…….if there are no valves then you will have to replace the cartridge.

REMOVING 5" RIDGID ROOF DRAIN PROBLEM

MY OH MY IS IT HEAVY! Last year I removed 80′ of 5″ screw pipe handling a roof drain in downtown Chicago, and replaced it with 6″ cast. I need to do 2 more, but the problem is I don’t want to remove what’s existing the way I performed the 1st one. We used a sawzall, and cut them at 10′ sections. HHHEEEEAAAVVVYYYY! My question is this: Is there a saw on the market where I can just make 2′ cuts all the way down instead of a sawzall? I must’ve gone through 30 blades…and to cut one section took nearly an hour each. Wise one please come fourth…
PS- The existing line nests in a brick corner.

I have used a 4″ high speed grinder however; it is still alot of work, watch out for fire hazards, were protective goggles, gloves, it is much faster and I think more fun then using the sawzall going throw all the blades.

Thumping shower pipes…

Hi, I’m searching for answers and hope somebody has seen this problem before and fixed it.
A contractor put in a new tub/shower enclosure and new Danze Fairmont D112000BT fixture and showerhead. It has the one-handle temp mixer.
It “thump-thump-thump’s” in the wall if you turn it on too fast. We contacted the manufacturer, tried adjusting the two screws on the cartridge, installed a new cartridge they sent us, and nothing changes.

This problem could be caused by a few things, I would like to know why your contractor will not fix this problem? I would call the City and give your permit number and tell them that you think your contractor put in defective material first. Then I would take the valve apart and check the inside of the valve for junk that could cause this problem. You didn’t say anything about contacting the valve company, they have good support for this valve. You should have at least 1 year warranty with this valve. Good luck,it looks like you don’t have to anything but make a phone call.

This is the instructions to the valve:

good luck.

Leak from Culligan drinking water faucet

Glad to find this site, first time user!
I currently have a small stream of water coming from a small pre-manufactured hole on the right side of a culligan drinking water faucet. This faucet is a part of a reverse osmosis drinking water system. The small hole looks like some pressure release hole with a brass fitting inside the hole. The letters CL are just above the hole. Any idea as to what’s causing this leak and how to fix it?

Normally the CL = critical level used to prevent back flow on a vacuum breaker.. If it is indeed the vacuum breaker leaking you need to find out why your geting back pressure

Sprayer and faucet run at the same time

Faucet is an American Standard about 3 years old. Single control. This faucet gets fairly light use as I’m only at home about 6 days a month. We have city water.

About a month ago I came home to find that when I try to rinse the sink out the faucet and the sprayer both have water coming through them at the same time. The pressure s about equal between the two. I replaced the sprayer head and tried the squeeze the sprayer on and off real fast trick. It’s still doing this. I’m guessing there’s some sort of valve inside the faucet that’s caught but I can’t figure out how to get to it. Any thoughts on if this can be fixed or should I just replace the faucet? Thank you

It should be able to be fixed as it could be sediment or just a bad diverter.. Try to get a model number possibly off the net and it should give you a blow up of parts and then look for the diverter.

Then you can order a new one and the parts break down should make repairs a lot easier
